August 10, 2008
Dear Grade Nine Student and your Parent/Guardian:
We are very excited that your child will be attending Huron Heights Secondary School and we look forward to meeting your student on Orientation Day on September 2nd, 2008. Our school participates in the Link Crew Program, an organization whose sole purpose is to help grade nines feel more comfortable as well as help them achieve success in their first year of high school.
The Link Crew Grade Nine Orientation and Transition Program is designed to both welcome and support Grade nines by assigning them a junior or senior Link Leader as a mentor during their first year. This Link Leader is an older student who was hand selected from a pool of applicants and has met the qualifications of being a good role model and a positive leader on our campus. Following is some information to let you know what you and your student can expect in advance of the first day of school.
1. A day or two before orientation students will receive a phone call from their Link Crew Leader personally inviting them to orientation day and giving the details of where to be and what time;
2. Students should select a locker on Timetable Pick-up Day (August 26, 2008) after receiving their timetable and determining where their homeroom class will be located;
3. Students should leave their backpacks, purses and other personal belongings in their lockers;
4. Because the day is active, please make sure students wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement;
5. Lunch will be provided during a barbecue from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. outside the school cafeteria for both parents / guardians and students;
6. Students will have an abbreviated timetable in the afternoon and parents are invited to attend the classes with the students.
This LINK Crew orientation session is a student-only function. Please feel free, however, to attend the PARENT MEETING in the morning from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Library. Topics such as Safe Schools and Attendance Procedures will be reviewed. In addition we will have presentations by School Council, our Street Liaison Officer and Guidance.
We look forward to meeting you and your student on orientation day!
Sincerely,
Tod Dungey
Principal
