Dear Neighbour,
Thank-you for expressing an interest in the Third Annual Festive Holiday Dinner being hosted by the students and staff of Huron Heights S.S., this Wednesday, December 19, 2007. Our goal this year is to prepare, cook and serve over 500 turkey dinners to community members who would benefit from a hot meal over the holiday season. As usual, Huron’s extended community has expressed an interest in getting involved and helping us pull off this amazing event again this year. The PEACE Club has decided on the following three ways for community members to be involved in the Holiday Dinner:
- If you are able to put together a small gift package for one of our younger dinner guests (please indicate age/gender), then we would be happy to place it in our holiday gift giving area and ensure it is distributed to an appropriate guest. We are also in need of new books that we can wrap and distribute at the Dinner.
- One of our PEACE Club students is pursuing a school wide initiative called “Love Knits”. The premise is to create a more peaceful school and community environment by encouraging anyone and everyone to knit for loved ones, friends and/or those in need. This year we hope to give away hand-knitted items such as hats, scarves and mittens at the Holiday Dinner to those who may be in need.
- In the past, the Empowering Student Partnerships (ESP) group at Huron has collected winter coats and distributed them at the Dinner. ESP is heading up some alternative projects this semester so if there are any groups in the community who are interested in collecting and distributing coats this year in their place, we can arrange a space at the dinner for distribution and will have plenty of volunteers on hand.
If you are interested in making a contribution to the Holiday Dinner or have any questions or comments please contact Katie Fizzell. Donations can be dropped off at the main office at anytime during the school day.
