Host Families Wanted by YRLC Homest Services

Last year over 500 international students attended YRDSB schools in either school year or summer programs and the numbers will increase this year. Some students are requesting to live with Canadian families to experience Canadian culture while improving their English skills. If your family can provide a caring, comfortable and secure home for an international student either during the school year or for the summer program, please contact Jennifer Recine, Homestay Coordinator at 905-883-0047, ext. 306 or email to jennifer.recine@yrdsb.edu.on.ca. All Homestay applicants will be interviewed and homes will be visited. A Police Check will be required. Remuneration is $200 per week or $800 per month.

East Gwillimbury Skating Club, Thank You

Dear Huron Heights Staff,

Just a quick note of thanks to tell you how much we appreciated your students’ help at the East Gwillimbury Skating Club’s ice show this past weekend.

“An Evening at the Oscars” required approx. 2500 volunteer hours to produce; your wonderful students contributed to that total as they moved props, applied makeup, babysat ‘frosty tots,’ fed the performers, acted as security on door duty and so much more.

We are fortunate to have an organization with tremendous volunteers so I am thrilled that your students were able to work with these inspiring people. I think they saw the benefits of volunteering through the success of this event and the importance of their contribution in that success.

I salute your high school program that encourages students to give their time and would like to say…bravo Huron students for a job well done!
